While viewers across the world who tuned in to watch the 89th Academy Awards – Oscars 2017 – are probably still recovering from the shocking twist of the wrong film being announced as the winner for Best Picture, there was something else at the awards that had everyone’s attention.

Be it chatting up interviewers at the famed red carpet in two languages or simply paying loving attention to mom, the lads of the acclaimed hit Lion, 8-year-old Sunny Pawar and Dev Patel seemed to be on a mission to steal hearts. And they certainly succeeded.

Here are our favourite moments from the duo at the Oscars:

When Sunny spoke in Hindi at the red carpet

The boy from Mumbai beat out 2,000 other kids to bag the role of the main character Saroo. And he showed off his versatility by tackling a red carpet interview by Ryan Seacrest by coolly switching between English and Hindi.

All the while gushing with excitement over attending the Oscars.

When Dev decided to help Sunny look sharp

It may not have been a big speech on a podium but in one of the most underrated moments from the ceremony, Dev Patel swooped down to his young co-star’s height to fix his suit.

And yes, fans took to social media to point out just how sweet it all was.

When Dev Patel’s Oscar date was his mom

Twitterati couldn’t handle their excitement when the Oscar nominee for Best Actor showed up looking dapper in a white suit and with his mom around his arm.

What made the moment even sweeter is the fact that he refused to let go of his mother’s hand through the entire red carpet.

When Dev Patel’s mom stole the limelight with her sari

Looking resplendent in black and gold sari, Dev Patel’s mom, Anita, couldn’t hide how proud she was of her son’s Oscar nomination.

When Sunny enacted The Lion King

During the live ceremony, host Jimmy Kimmel walked down to Sunny’s seat to chat up with him over his experience at the Oscars. And then the duo to the amusement of the audience and the viewers went onto to enacting a seminal scene from the Disney animated film, The Lion King to thunderous applause.
