Qatar Blockade: India to Increase Flights to Doha to Allow Countrymen to Return. More Details Here

In order to safely bring back the citizens from Qatar, the government of India is diligently working to mobilise more flights immediately.

The blockade was imposed on the Gulf country by its fellow states over terrorism backing accusations in the beginning of June.

Almost all modes of transportation have been suspended to or from Qatar, where around 7 lakh Indians currently reside.

According to TOI, an official from the aviation ministry said that special flights between Kerala and Doha will be undertaken by Air India Express from June 25 to July 8. The 186-seater Boeing 737s would be put to task by the airline.

Along with this, Jet Airways will also deploy extra flights between Mumbai and Doha, operating on Thursday and Friday with its 168-seater B-737.

Reportedly the External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj had been in correspondence with the Aviation Minister A G Raju on Monday to mobilise additional flights for the Indians stuck in the country who wanted to return but weren’t able to book the tickets.

Shortly the ministry had gotten in touch with airlines concerned that were ready to extend the number of flights. “The aviation ministry has told the MEA that all steps necessary for the timely movement of Indian nationals from Qatar shall be ensured,” the official added.

Since a large group of Indians live in the Gulf region, India is on a lookout over the tense situation in Qatar, where it is feared that soon essential supplies may run short with major trading countries having cut off their ties.
