New Drivers in Bengaluru Will Soon Get Their Learner’s Licence in Just One Day

Here is some great news for all the new drivers in Bengaluru — getting a learner’s licence (LL) will soon be easier and faster.

Thanks to the new software that the Transport Department is working on, along with the National Informatics Commission, people can get their licence in just one day.

The software will enable applicants to file their documents online before appearing for the test. The process, which takes three to seven days to issue the LL, will now get reduced to just one day after the successful implementation of the plan.

About 1,500 applications are received by 10 Regional Transport Offices (RTOs) in Bengaluru every day. The new procedure is likely to speed up the process.

The initiative, which is currently in the testing phase, will provide a central platform for applicants to upload all the documents and will make the entire process paperless. All documents like address proof, date of birth proof, etc. can be uploaded online.

After the documents are uploaded, the applicants will get a reference number that can be used to pay the fees and to get the documents verified. Once this is done, they will be required to visit the RTO office and give an online test. They will need to answer 10 out of 15 questions correctly to get the licence on the spot.

The initiative is being tested as a pilot project at the Yelahanka RTO, and a high-speed connection to the Karnataka State Wide Area Network (KSWAN) has been provided to make the process easier.
