With Stunning Score of 148, Brilliant Kolkata Techie Ranks No.1 on IQ World Test!

A  Kolkata techie made headlines after he topped the IQ World Test with a score of 148.

Born and raised in the city of joy, 43-year-old Amit Sahai is an IT professional with a background in international sales of software, and high-end sound and engineering products.

Amit Sahai is also the man behind a 2015 documentary film chronicling the lives and struggles of the magician community in India. Titled ‘Fading Magic: The Story of Kolkata’s Magicians’, the film has travelled through 13 International Film Festivals in Los Angeles, Miami, Jakarta, Ukraine, Rome, West Indies, Kolkata, Mumbai and New Delhi. It has gained international acclaim as well as seven international awards.

He secured the top position in the renowned Intelligence Quotient (IQ) test, sharing the rank with two other Americans.

Speaking to The Times of India, the techie said, “I believe that intelligence is a relative term and this was just a test score which can be beaten by anyone with the right aptitude. Indians have a very sharp mind and understand things faster. Most Indians could get a high score as long as they play it fair. I would be proud if any Indian gets a higher score.”

He also added how it was satisfying to see his name top the list. He believes that thousands of people have higher IQs. But are yet to be measured.

The IQ World LLC which recorded the results, is an IQ Tests development company, based out of the United States, which provides services to many recruiting and HR companies and individuals. It is a large community with over 155,000 members with an idea to help people compete against the brightest brains on the planet. A number of employment agencies, schools and corporates use these tests to single out the best candidates.

That being said, it would be useful to note that only 2 percent of the world’s population has an IQ score above 130.

And while the Kolkata techie is one of the Indian adults to have made his place, a number of Indian-origin teens have managed to secure 160+ IQ score in Mensa tests, above geniuses like Albert Einstein and Stephen Hawking.

One of them was 13-year-old Arnav Sharma from Southern England who scored 162 on a Mensa IQ test in June 2017. He was termed the brainiest child in Britain after he drew media attention on cracking the competitive test with zero preparation. He had never seen a typical IQ test paper before that.

According to a report in The Independent, his score in the test which comprised verbal reasoning ability placed him in the top one percent of the globe for high IQ talents.

Similar was the case with another Indian-origin girl in England, 12-year-old Rajgauri Pawar, who scored an amazing 162 in the British Mensa IQ test in Manchester in April 2017.

Whether intelligence can really be measured through tests or not is a different debate. But one cannot disregard that these tests are highly competitive, and credit is due to those cracking them on merit.
