Last-Minute Travel? With an Indian Passport, Go Visa-Free or Get Visa-On-Arrival in 48 Countries!

Indian passport holders can travel to 46 countries visa-free or with visa upon arrival options. Included in this list are some of the World’s top international travel destinations! 

In this years Global Passport Index, India ranked number 78th in terms of travel freedom. As of January 2017, Indian passport holders had visa-free or visa on arrival access to 46 countries and territories around the world. This figure includes 20 countries and territories where an Indian can travel visa-free and 26 where the citizen can utilise the visa-on-arrival option.

The Global Passport Index ranks the world’s passport by the ease at which their citizens can travel around the world.

Germany took the top spot as the country with the most powerful passport, with visa-free travel to 160 countries, followed by Sweden in second place with 159 and Denmark in third with 158. Among Asian countries, India ranked 35 out of 50 with the top spots going to Singapore, South Korea and Japan respectively.

The 20 countries and territories offering visa-free trips to Indian passport holders are: Bhutan, Dominica, Ecuador, El Salvador, Fiji, Grenada, Haiti, Indonesia, Jamaica,  Macau, Macedonia,  Mauritius, Micronesia,  Nepal, Palestinian Territories, Saint Kitts and Nevis,  Senegal, St. Vincent and the Grenadines, Trinidad and Tobago, Vanuatu.

The other 26 countries offering visa-on-arrival are: Bolivia,  Cambodia, Cape Verde, Comoros, Ivory Coast, Ethiopia, Guinea-Bissau, Jordan, Kenya, Laos, Madagascar, Maldives, Marshall Islands, Mauritania,  Mozambique, Palau, Saint Lucia, Samoa, Seychelles,   Suriname, Tanzania, Thailand, Timor-Leste, Togo,  Tuvalu, Uganda

We’ve picked 5 of our favorite and listed them below* along with some of the reasons that make them an awesome travel destination. All of the countries listed either don’t require a visa, offer a free visa or offer a visa upon arrival (some even offer all 3 options!)

1. INDONESIA, ASIA

Visa Requirements: Free Visa Stamp on arrival for 30 days for tourism purposes only. No extension possible.

Indonesia is gaining mass popularity from travellers across the globe for many reasons. It’s inexpensive, it’s full of incredible culture, it’s people are amongst the friendliest in the world, it’s got world-class resorts and good food and it’s Island Bali is a popular tourist destination it itself. According to Trip Advisor 2017 the top 5 things to do/see in Indonesia include a visit to the water park in Kuta, the ancient ruins of Borobudur Temple in Borobudur, the rice fields of Ubud, shopping in Jakarta and surfing in Bali.

2. JORDAN, MIDDLE EAST

Visa Requirements: visa on arrival  (provided all the necessary documentation are presented upon arrival)

Jordan is full of incredible wonders, both natural and man-made. It’s worth the trip alone to take a dip in the Earth’s lowest point and natural spa – the Dead Sea. The food is delicious with its mixture of Mediterranean and Middle Eastern, the people are friendly and welcoming to visitors and it’s ancient city of Petra (made famous by the Indiana Jones and The Last Crusade movie) is one of the new 7 wonders of the world.

3. JAMAICA, THE CARIBBEAN

Visa Requirements: no visa required for a stay of up to 14 days.

Jamaica is the third largest island in the Caribbean and is bursting with culture and adventure. It’s got year-round warm weather, miles of stunning coastline, fresh food and its people are full of smiles.

4. KENYA, AFRICA

Visa Requirements: visa on arrival is available at the airport on Payment of $ 50.

Kenya has diverse wildlife habitats, great rift valley and lakes, prolific bird life and rich culture and crafts. Although Kenya is roughly 6 times smaller than India in terms of size, the diversity of its landscape is big enough to rival that of India. It has lush tropical beaches, desert plains, snow-capped mountains and volcanoes. It’s home to ‘the big 5’; Elephant, Rhino, Lion, Leopard and Buffalo and people love to visit Kenya because you can see these incredible animals in their natural habitat by heading to the Masai Mara.

5. BOLIVIA, SOUTH AMERICA

Visa Requirements: visa on arrival, valid for 90 days, available only at La Paz and Santa Cruz airports.

Bolivia has unique natural beauty like no other. Its capital Sucre is the highest capital city in the world, it has the largest salt flats in the world, mountains, jungles, lakes, and everything else in between. You can visit the amazon jungle and witness the abundance of unique local wildlife.

Visa Upon Entry Checklist:
For obtaining a visa on arrival, visitors would typically need to provide on arrival return flight tickets, proof of hotel reservations, evidence of sufficient funds to cover their stay, passport sized photographs, a passport with validity of at least 6 months and adequate empty pages and the money for fee if required by the country.
