2015 was a great year for India with respect to entry in the Guinness world records, more commonly known by their earlier avatar The Guinness Book of World Records. Even government schemes managed to get entry into the hallowed list, and rest assured it wasn’t for corruption.
Let’s look at some of the Indian entries in the famous records:
1. Pradhan Mantri Jan Dhan Yojana
Record: Most bank accounts opened in one week. A total of 18,096,130 were opened from August 23 to 29, 2014.
What’s more, 20 crore accounts have been opened till now under the scheme. This will greatly help promote the goal of financial inclusion and transform our country.

2. PAHAL
Record: ‘Largest cash benefit programme (households)’ in the world, with 12.57 crore households receiving cash transfers when the record was announced.
PAHAL, which stands for Pratyaksh Hanstantarit Laabh, is the programme for direct benefit transfer of LPG subsidy (DBTL). At present, 14.62 crore LPG consumers have joined the PAHAL scheme and are receiving the subsidy directly into their bank accounts, which is resulting in substantial savings in subsidy.

3. International Day of Yoga – 21 June, 2015
Record: ‘Largest Yoga lesson’ & ‘Most nationalities in Yoga lesson.’
The Rajpath event created the record for the largest yoga class, with 35,985 people performing yoga at once and volunteers and invitees from 84 different countries taking part.
Earlier, a total of 175 nations co-sponsored the resolution and had the highest number of co-sponsors ever for any UNGA Resolution of such nature. Another record to be proud of!

4. World’s Largest Science Practical
Record: World’s largest practical science lesson
Two thousand students came together at IIT Delhi and successfully conducted two simple chemistry experiments. In the process they broke the record last held by the revered Royal Society of Chemistry of participation by 1339 students.

5. Nati Dance, delivering message on girl child
Record: The largest folk dance in the world.
The event, called Pride of Kullu, was dedicated to the girl child, in which 9,892 women participated. This will greatly promote tourism in Kullu Valley.

6. Message against drugs through Bollywood dance
Record: Largest Bollywood dance performance.
An offbeat message against drugs was delivered through a dance performance by 8,726 students from 40 schools at Khalsa College, Amritsar.
