The Punjab government aims to become 100 percent open defecation free by October 2017 and they have constructed 33 lakhs toilets so far to reach their target.
Taking its cleanliness mission one step further, the Punjab government claimed that it has constructed toilets for 33 lakh rural families in a bid to eliminate open defecation in the state.
Punjab aims to acquire the status of an open defecation-free state with 100 per cent toilet access by October 2017.

The budget for constructing these toilets was Rs.937 crore and the remaining 7.92 lakh families would be covered in the next three years.
An amount of Rs. 15,000 has been provided to each beneficiary under this project.
To ensure transparency of the project, around 18,000 photographs of the beneficiaries standing in front of their toilets have been uploaded on the union government website.
