In This Together: Wipro, Azim Premji Foundation Commit 1,125 Cr to COVID-19 Fight

In the current times of need, several celebrities, NGOs and business communities have come forward to provide financial, technological and medical assistance to health and sanitation workers, and migrant labourers. The latest to join the long list of philanthropists is Wipro Ltd, Wipro Enterprises Ltd and Azim Premji Foundation.

Together, they have pledged to donate Rs 1,125 crore, making it one of the highest donations from a corporate house. The sum is in addition to the yearly Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) activities of Wipro. The donated sum will be dedicated to the medical and service fraternity fighting the COVID-19 outbreak at the frontlines.

“Modern global society has not confronted a crisis of this magnitude and type. The Azim Premji Foundation and Wipro believe that we must all work together to not only deal with this crisis and minimise its human impact, particularly on the disadvantaged, but also learn from these extraordinary times, to develop a more resilient global community, based on justice, equity, humaneness, and ecological sustainability,” the company said in its statement released on 1 April.

Coordinating the efforts will be a 1600-member team, with the government departments and institutions concerned, in collaboration with its 350 partners of civil society across the country.

“Integrated action will be taken for a comprehensive on-the-ground response in specific geographies, focused on immediate humanitarian aid, and augmentation of healthcare capacity, including containing the COVID-19 outbreak and treating those affected by it,” the statement added.
