Video: Check Out India’s 1st Food Vending Machine On-Board a Running Train!

On Friday, June 8, 2018, the Coimbatore-Bengaluru  UDAY Express was flagged off. There are thousands of trains that run daily, except that this train was special, it had a vending machine on it! NDTV reports that the tab-operating machine would give drinks, juices and snacks. Tea, coffee, aerated drinks, canned juices and packets of snacks were also on the menu.

Passengers can choose items from the list and add it to their cart,and once their payment goes through, the vending machine automatically dispenses the items, like in the below video!

The UDAY Express has many other amenities like an infotainment system with wi-fi, and GPS-based passenger information system, food-vending machines, and an exclusive dining area for passengers. The aesthetic orange-yellow double-decker air-conditioned chair car train has ten coaches including two power cars, with brake vans.

The train, 22666/22665, Coimbatore-KSR Bengaluru UDAY Express, starts from Coimbatore Junction, at 5:45 a.m, arriving in Bengaluru at 12:40 p.m. From Bengaluru, it starts at 2:15 p.m, reaching Coimbatore at 9 p.m. The train’s quick travel time is a boon for business-class travellers.

So, the next time you travel by this train, order your snacks off the vending machine! A great technological leap by the Railways indeed!
