Humanity First: Muslim Man from Dehradun Breaks Ramzan Fast to Save a Life!

Humanity First: Muslim Man from Dehradun Breaks Ramzan Fast to Save a Life!

Dehradun's Arif was fasting, when doctors asked him to eat something in order to donate blood.

The holy month of Ramzan is a time for fasting for believers. Muslims around the world adhere strictly to the rules, which includes no food or even a drop of water from sunrise to sunset.

Well, this man broke the rules – but for a noble cause!

As reported by Jagran, Arif Khan, a devout Muslim and the president of the National Association for Parents and Students Rights in Dehradun, Uttarakhand, broke his Ramzan fast before Iftar – to save a life.

20-year old Ajay Bijlawan, admitted to the Max Hospital in Dehradun, was in a critical condition, and his blood platelet number had dropped drastically – dipping to some 5000. The normal range is 150,000 to 450,000 platelets per microliter of blood. Ajay needed a transfusion of A+ blood urgently, as the only means to save his life.

Ajay’s father took to social media and Whatsapp, asking for help from family and friends, to organise the blood for his son. The anxious father wrote a heartfelt post, seeking blood donations from anyone willing to help.

The post reached Arif through a Whatsapp forward. He immediately called Ajay’s father and headed to the hospital.

As per routine procedure, doctors asked Arif to eat something before donating blood. Initially, Arif asked to give the blood without eating as it was not time to eat yet, as per the rules of Roza.

However, doctors highlighted the medical need for any donor to eat before donating blood – which is a requirement in all cases. Putting humanity above religion, Arif quickly changed his mind, ate the food offered by the doctors and then proceeded to donate blood.

Speaking to InUth, Arif said, “The doctor told me that I could donate. However, I need to eat something before donating the blood. It was the right thing to do,”

Ajay’s condition is still unknown, and there is no clarity if he is out of danger or not. However, Arif’s donation extended his precious life, and Ajay may well be on the road to recovery.
