LCD infotainment television screens, attendant call buttons, reading lights and seats with footrests – No, I am not describing the features on an aeroplane. These are the features of the all-new Anubhuti luxury coach by the Indian Railways.
With the harvest festival just around the corner, the Southern Railway is all set to gift its passengers on the Chennai-Bengaluru-Mysore Shatabdi a gift of indulgence and comfort by adding two new luxury coaches to its existing fleet.
So far, ten such compartments have been built at the Integral Coach Factory in Chennai. Western and Central Railways will get two each, while six have been allotted to the Northern Railway.
Like all new railway coaches, the Anubhuti compartments come with anti-graffiti protection. They have ergonomically designed bio-toilets with touch-free taps to reduce wastage of water. The mini-pantry remains the same except for the addition of soup boilers, reports Economic Times.
These coaches are designed to offer more leg space to passengers. Hence, these coaches will have a maximum seating capacity of 56 passengers.

There will also be a GPS-based passenger information system.
Each seat has an LCD infotainment touchscreen, which allows passengers to choose between movies and music and serves as a platform for information and feedback.
A pair of headphones will be provided for each screen. There will be a USB mobile charging point for each passenger between two adjoining seats. The toilets are touch-free modular types and also have a hand-drier facility, a top official said. Each coach cost Rs 3 crore, the official said, as reported in Times of India.

A report also suggested that these coaches will be operated as an executive class coach. Currently, the Chennai-Bengaluru-Mysuru Shatabdi has only one executive class coach.
As of now, fares for the executive class coach on the train from Chennai to Mysuru costs Rs 1,835 and to Bengaluru Rs 1,445. The fare on the Anubhuti coach will be around Rs 2,200 and Rs 1,735 after the increase.
If you happen to travel by this coach, we would love to hear about it.
