His name is Bijender and he works as a security guard at an ATM. But what Bijender does after the sun goes down and the lights come on in his neighbourhood will inspire you today.
Bijender starts his day by taking his position outside an Allahabad Bank ATM in Majra, Dehradun.
But by the time evening rolls around, children start gathering around him. Homeless children, beggars, child labourers, kids from nearby slums – they collect around him because they know he is about to give them something that no one else does – the gift of education.
Sitting on the pavement in front of the ATM, in the blue light filtering through from the cubicle, 24 children in all are taught by Bijender everyday.
He says many of the kids he has taught, in the last 16 years that he has been doing this, have good jobs today. Teaching poor children makes him feel content and happy, he adds.
Stories like his deserve to be shared and we, for one, are happy to salute Bijender for the commendable work he is doing.
