Meet the Brave Kerala Cop Who Jumped into a River to Save a Teenager from Drowning

In an act that reaffirms our faith in the police force, a policeman from Thiruvananthapuram in Kerala jumped into a river to save a teenager from drowning.

On January 31, the girl’s parents went to the Fort Police Station and filed a complaint saying their daughter had not returned home. The police dispatched a team, which started looking for her 6.30 p.m. onwards. Later in the night, the Police Control Room got a call saying a girl had been spotted in Karamana locality. The team reached there at around 10.30 p.m. and saw her standing near a bridge. As the police approached the girl, she jumped into the river.

What happened next was amazing. Assistant Sub-inspector Sajeesh Kumar, who was part of the search team,  jumped in after her. He managed to rescue her and brought her to the river bank. The police then put her in the van and drove her straight to the hospital. Her condition is now said to be stable.

Kerala State Police Chief T.P. Senkumar (IPS) took to Facebook to congratulate his brave colleague.

He also offered a reward of Rs. 3,000 to Sajeesh.
