Remya Ramachandran, a resident of Thrissur in Kerala, took a very courageous and bold step when she decided to call off her marriage, and wrote a hard-hitting post about it on Facebook.
This is the translation –
“Friends, Here is an announcement for people asking me about my wedding day. The person, who before the engagement, used to say that he needed just me, is now demanding Rs 5 lakh and 50 sovereigns of gold. As I am staunchly against dowry and because I believe that buying anything for a man and his family who are so unreliable is a loss, I don’t want to continue with the marriage. Thanks. Remya”
Her post gained a lot of attention and instantly went viral.
People wrote back to congratulate her. “Bold decision. You represent the new generation, and will be a role model for the young,” said one person.
Remya posted another message thanking all those who supported her in this decision.
Kudos to the fearless woman who knew when to speak up, and did not let unfair social practices come in the way of her values and principles.
