Abid Alvi, a Muslim youth, has translated the Hindu prayer Hanuman Chalisa into Urdu with the view that it will unite the two communities as they will understand each other’s culture and beliefs better.

After the translation of Shrimad Bhagwad Gita into Urdu couplets by noted Urdu poet and author, Anwar Jalalpuri, a Muslim youth has translated the Hindu prayer Hanuman Chalisa into Urdu as well.

Abid Alvi from Jaunpur, Uttar Pradesh, has translated the prayer musaddas style, which consists of six lines. “Like a chaupai has four lines, musaddas has three shers and six lines,” he explained here.

The idea came to Abid when he was in Varanasi, and some foreigners asked people to recite the Hanuman Chalisa. He is planning more such translations and the Shiv Chalisa prayer is on his list right now. Being a student of Hindi, he will also be translating some Urdu works. He had translated the prayer with the view that it will help people from different communities in understanding each other’s culture and beliefs. He wishes that Urdu books should be converted to Hindi and vice versa, as it will bring about unity and love among the communities.

It took him 3 months to complete the translation as he wanted to avoid any kind of mistakes. We hope that his wish of creating harmony between the two communities gets fulfilled.
