After Signing a Death Contract, Sangram Singh Wins WWP Heavyweight Championship and Our Hearts

On 18 July 2015, Sangram Singh won the World Wrestling Professionals (WWP) Commonwealth Wrestling Heavyweight Championship. He has signed a death contract for the match, beforehand.

On 18 July 2015, Sangram Singh won the World Wrestling Professionals (WWP) Commonwealth Wrestling Heavyweight Championship. He has signed a death contract for the match, beforehand.

Held at Nelson Mandela Bay in Port Elizabeth in South Africa, the World Wrestling Professionals (WWP) Commonwealth Wrestling Heavyweight Championship saw history being made on July 18th.

Sangram Singh, India’s ace wrestler, who made his comeback after three years through this match, won the WWP Heavyweight Championship, bringing glory to his country and family.

Sangram Singh had to sign a death contract which stated that if either of the wrestlers were to be fatally injured during the match, none of the organizers would be responsible. He is the first Indian to have signed such a contract. The Commonwealth Wrestling Heavyweight Championship, was the ‘Last Man Standing‘ match.

According to India Today, Sangram was in a lock-down for over ten minutes, when his opponent nearly suffocated him to death.

But Sangram was not one to bow down. He fought back with tenacity and won the championship in the end, defeating Canadian wrestler, Joe Legend.

Not having partaken in a professional fight since three years owing to injuries, this win is a mark of Singh’s talent, determination, courage and prowess. Here’s to many more such successes for ‘The Last Man Standing‘!
