A Skill Developing Institute for Construction Workers to Open in NCR

Believe it or not, there is already one such institute in Pune. But the NCR branch would be the first-of-its-kind in northern India and both have been initiated by the same association, that is, Confederation of Real Estate Developers’ Associations of India (CREDAI).

CREDAI, in collaboration with the National Skill Development Corporation, will open an institute to train and provide growth opportunities to construction workers.

They think that it is lack of necessary skills in workers that has resulted in the slowing down of many projects. Come September, the institute will start functioning in Noida, NCR.

“Flow of labourers from rural belts to cities to work on construction projects has gone down because of employment schemes in villages. Projects are thus getting hampered. While the real estate is the only sector that provides employment to illiterate people and there is a huge scope for employment here, workers don’t feel motivated to continue.” said the president of CREDAI (western UP), Deepak Kapoor to the Times of India.

The training programmes at the institute are said to help them by giving them a growth map and in helping them increase their wages over a period of time. The usual daily wage for such workers is Rs. 300 but the association claims that by undergoing the training at their institute, the workers could get a hike of Rupees 100 or more daily.

They are also planning that their attendees learn, and in turn teach other people, the same skill set. It has already happened in Pune where a painter learned the skill and then taught over 500 people.
