When I was in school, I was fascinated by the idea of a day entirely dedicated to children. As soon as November arrived, I could see the shift in the energy of teachers and senior students as they started preparing to celebrate Children’s day, and we looked forward to whatever they had planned— whether it was a play, a fancy dress competition or an entire day of games and activities.
However, not everyone looks forward to this day in the same manner. For many children coming from underprivileged backgrounds, November 14 is just another day.
This November, Flipkart decided to make Children’s day extra special for 5,000 students of 24 government schools across Karnataka, and they invited their customers from across India to join them in this heartwarming initiative!
The idea was simple—for every toy purchased by a customer on Flipkart, the e-commerce platform would give one toy to an underprivileged student.
“When the conversation to celebrate Children’s day started, we decided we wanted to do something that would help make a difference,” Nishit Garg, Senior Director of Books and General Merchandise from Flipkart told The Better India. “That’s when we decided that for every toy sold on Flipkart, we would distribute one to students in government schools of Karnataka. So apart from the games and activities that the schools would organize, we wanted them to go back with a memory of Children’s Day this year. Our customers and our brand partners helped in ensuring the success of the activity and smile on the faces of these children.”
As part of the campaign #ToysForASmile, volunteers from Flipkart visited the schools, played with the children and distributed toys among them.
The simple joys of life often go unnoticed but not for these students. For them, this Children’s day was one to remember for a long time.
“Ma’am came and gave us one toy each. It was fun to play with the blocks and make animals out of it,” one of the kids exclaimed.
The children, in turn, had a surprise waiting for the volunteers. Watch the video below to find out what it was:

When was the last time you felt the warmth of children’s faces lighting up with laughter? On November 14, Flipkart set out on their #ToysForASmile mission to make this the most special Children’s Day yet. The idea was simple: For every toy you purchased on Flipkart between November 7 to 12, Flipkart kept one aside for children in need. Distributing over 5,000 toys among children in 24 government schools in Karnataka, these Flipsters brought countless smiles to the faces of children.
