Injured Baby Monkey Rescued by Karnataka Shepherd, Finds ‘Mother’ in Goat!
Two years ago, Puttapana Basappa was grazing his goats in a field when he spotted a young monkey who had fallen from a tree and was injured.
Interspecies friendships are adorable, and there are many examples of such unusual friendships across the world today. One such heart-warming example was seen in the Konana Pura village in Karnataka when a shepherd rescued an abandoned baby monkey.
Two years ago, Puttapana Basappa was grazing his goats in a field when he spotted a young monkey who had fallen from a tree and was injured. Basappa looked around for her family as monkeys, especially langurs, can be very fierce if they sense a threat to their young ones. Babies are also usually not left alone if they cannot take care of themselves.
However, Basappa’s search was futile, and her family was nowhere to be found.
Unwilling to leave the baby monkey behind, the shepherd took her home. He treated her injuries and named her Seetha! One of Basappa’s goats had recently given birth and was still lactating. The new mother, quite surprisingly, fed Seetha.
After this, Basappa left Seetha in the field, free to return to her family. But the next day, when Basappa took his goats to graze, Seetha was sitting on the compound, waiting for her new friends!

Two years on, Seetha has comfortably settled in, and accompanies her ‘mother’ goat while they graze, wandering off to the jungle in the evening and returning to her ‘family’ the next day!
There are numerous instances of animals straying from their behavioural patterns in touching ways.
