Talking about what inspired him to join the defence forces, Debasis told The Times of India, “I don’t find any reason not to join. It’s exciting, honourable and glorious. You get a chance to serve the country the best possible way. The salary is good.”

His parents, Prafulla Sarangi and Suchitra Dash, are both teachers. The eldest of three siblings, Debasis’ younger brother is pursuing a Bachelors degree in Science while his sister is studying homoeopathy.

Debasis told the publication that he was preparing for the CDS for more than three years. “I had appeared for NDA four times but could not make it. I was determined to crack the CDS. Apart from following a highly disciplined routine, I read books on personality development and military.”

While India is upgrading its hardware and infrastructure, what has given our armed forces the edge and reputation is the high quality of people who don the uniform. With motivated individuals like Debasis entering the forces, one feels that the future of the Indian armed forces is in good hands.
