‘I Owe It To Ronak’: How Heena Sidhu’s Husband Inspired Her To Win Gold!

In a heartwarming Instagram post, ace shooter Heena Sidhu credited her husband and coach Ronak Pandit for the motivation behind her gold-winning performance at CWG 2018.

‘I Owe It To Ronak’: How Heena Sidhu’s Husband Inspired Her To Win Gold!

One of India’s standout performers at the Commonwealth Games 2018, ace shooter Heena Sidhu clinched the gold in the Women’s 25m pistol (Precision/Rapid) finals. This stunning win brought India’s gold medal tally to 11 in CWG 2018.

Heena had also bagged a silver medal at the 10m Air Pistol event on Sunday, and this is the fourth medal that she has won in the Commonwealth Games. She had won a gold and silver in the women’s 10m air pistol pairs and individual events respectively at CWG 2010, which was held in New Delhi.

However, what made this victory especially important for Heena was the fact that she managed to win despite an injury in her trigger finger.

It took the 28-year-old all of her determination and skill to hold her nerve through the series and ultimately emerge as the champion.

The proverbial tortoise of the race, Heena’s performance was acknowledgedly below par in the Precision round, and she was trailing in the seventh position with 286 points. She started the Rapid round poorly as well, scoring only 95 in her first attempt, but made up herself brilliantly in the last two shots scoring 99 consecutively to get to third place.

Heena’s exemplary performance speaks about her incredible tenacity as well as motivation to win at CWG. And for this the delighted shooter gave credit to her husband and coach Ronak Pandit in a heartwarming Instagram post.

In the post, she mentions how Ronak —  who is himself a shooter and had won a gold medal at the 2006 Commonwealth Games — told her that she would win, and dedicated her gold medal to her team.

“I owe it to my coach and husband Ronak Pandit for preparing me for the finals and he told me that my best will come in the finals even though my trainings were never this high,” she wrote. “He actually said it three days back, ‘you are going to win the sports pistol with your personal best’.”

“I thought he’s trying to cheer me up after training, but he knew that I am on my learning curve and it will improve when I demand it. So when the day came and pressure was high I applied all my skills and delivered my best,” she added in the post in which she also thanked her team for helping her prepare.
