RPF Returns Bag with Cheques Worth Crores: What to Do If You Lose Stuff on Trains

Human error can cause slips, and this happens when you least expect it. A slight drop in vigilance has the potential to snowball into a catastrophe. Being alert at all times is especially relevant for those who travel by train.

However, sometimes, help comes from the unlikeliest and unexpected sources.

On Tuesday, Kalkan resident, Rajaram More, accidentally left 982 LIC insurance cheques and documents, amounting to Rs 25 crore, on a 12:53 p.m. fast local from Kalyan to Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus. When he realised that he had forgotten the bag, he hurriedly approached the RPF outpost in Dadar and the station master’s office.

The RPF immediately swung into action and began monitoring the train’s movement. When it reached Dadar, two constables went to check for the bag. Luckily for More, the bag was intact. The relieved commuter was informed and asked to come collect his belongings.

This isn’t the first time the RPF has promptly reunited a distraught passenger with his extremely valuable belongings. Read the nail-biting story of how a passenger got back a bag containing jewellery worth lakhs, over here.

While travelling on a train, or in fact any public transport, it is advisable to keep your belongings as close to you as possible. The one easy way to do that would be to carry a backpack as it is easier to carry heavy loads on your back, and you will always be conscious of wearing it, so it is difficult to forget.

If you do happen to misplace something, call 182 and speak to the RPF and tell them your issue. You can also call 1800-111-139. If you cannot get through these numbers, tweet @RailMin, with your PNR, contact details and complaint.

The RPF always tries its best in helping commuters in trouble, but as a responsible commuter, it would be prudent to save yourself and the authorities from unnecessary hassles!
