All You Should Know About the IIM Ahmedabad Course That’s Been Ranked No. 1 in the World

It’s official. The Food and Agri-Business Management (PGP-FABM) programme offered by the Indian Institute of Management, Ahmedabad has been declared as the best post graduate course in the field of food industry management. IIM-A beat top international institutions such as Cornell University and University of California, Berkeley, to ace the rankings.

The two-year programme offers comprehensive training modules to prepare students for success in the agri-business sector. IIM-A received the distinction in a list released by the France-based organisation Eduniversal, an annual ranking of business schools and universities spread across 150 countries.

In a press release from the institute, Professor Debjit Roy, chairperson of PGP-FABM said, “To address today’s challenges in the food and agri-business sector, participants need to have exposure to cross-functional management and work with teams whose members are from diverse backgrounds. The FABM programme, which attracts participants from diverse backgrounds — such as agriculture and food sciences, engineering, biotechnology and life sciences — prepares the participants to take up challenges. The alumni from this programme are playing a key role in shaping policies and addressing the needs of this sector.”

1) The first year of the programme follows the same curriculum as a normal PGP-General course offered to students. According to the university, this helps students understanding the principles of management and complex managerial decision-making that can impact all sectors.

2) Once the first year is completed, students are put through a rigorous Rural Immersion Module (RIM) during the summer vacation. During the first phase, they receive their first proper overview of the agricultural business sector.
