VIDEO: This Transgender Artist is Using Art to Help Underpriviledged Members of Her Community

Kalki Subramaniam, an artist with a passion for social justice, is using art to empower and educate underprivileged members of her community.

K alki Subramaniam, a passionate artist with an equal passion in activism has combined the two for the sake of educating underprivileged members of her community.

In a move to empower the transgender community, she founded ‘Sahodari,’ an organization that works for the political and legal rights of transgenders and also helps them combat the stigma associated with being transgender in India.

On education, Kalki said in an interview, to Youth India: “Our ministry of education should take efforts to include and educate students, both school and college-going,  on gender and sexuality. Gender-queer students suffer a lot during their schooling, we definitely need to change this and bring about acceptance.”
