Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Madras is offering a free online course for engineers on data science. The course will be conducted via the institute’s SWAYAM portal.

The course teaches students the main ideas of data science, giving them a complete understanding of the subject to build a strong base in the subject.

Things to know

• The eight-week-long course will be led by Professor Ragunathan Rengasamy and Shankar Narasimhan.
• The topics cover a range of subjects — including an introduction to R programming language, mathematical foundations for data science, data science algorithms, statistics, optimisation, regression analysis, classification techniques, and a practical capstone case study.
• Once students complete the course, they will be able to solve data science problems, code in R, and critically analyse and evaluate solution approaches.
• While the course is free for anyone to access, participants who want a certificate need to register and pass a proctored exam.

Important dates

• The course will go on from 22 January to 15 March, 2024.
• The certification examination is scheduled for 24 March, 2024.
