Get Ready for India’s First Paragliding World Cup to Be Held in Himachal Pradesh

India will soon host the Paragliding World Cup, 2015. This is the first of its kind world cup event in the country and it will take place from 23rd to 31st October, with the participation of some of the best paragliders and pilots from over 40 countries.

Himachal Pradesh is all set to host some of the best paragliders of the world this October, during India’s first Paragliding World Cup event to be held in the state.

The event “AAI Paragliding World Cup 2015” will take place from 23rd to 31st October, 2015 at Bir Billing in Kangra Valley.

About 130 paragliders from over 40 countries will be participating in the much awaited championship. This will include the world’s top five paragliders as well.

The first of its kind event in India is being organised by The Billing Paragliding Association (BPA) and is sponsored by Airports Authority of India (AAI). The championship is expected to boost sports and tourism in the state as sportspersons, pilots and other prominent personalities will be visiting during this World Cup.

Bir Billing is considered to be the second best paragliding spot in the world and it is now being prepared to match the international standards for the upcoming event.

BPA had successfully organised the Pre-World Cup of Paragliding at the same venue in 2013. Because of the great response that time, Fédération Aéronautique Internationale (FAI), the governing world body for air sports, decided to award the event to India this year.

To make sure the participants get a good experience, take-off and landing areas are being redone, and state-of-the-art facilities are being introduced for the visitors.

The event will have other attractions like hot air balloon, acro shows and special themed programmes to make it a lot more fun. It is the first time that an event of this magnitude will be held in India. We hope it will give a new boost to the sport.
