    Rabindra Sarobar in South Kolkata needs your help.
    1. CIT staff Quarter- slum in the RS  needs urgent relocation. UGLY. other dilipated structures should go.
    2. Cricket coaching camps encroached vast areas. All constuctions need demolition.
    3. CIT dumping gound for Concrets pipes lying for decades need removal.
    4. All dilapidated brick walls inside the Sarobar needs urgent demolition.
    6. Civil Defence depptt. junk boats need removal.
    7. Vidyasagar school – now defunct needs demolition.
    8. 3 clubs are regularly polluting the lake, surreptitiosly encroaching more and more greens,making new constructions- needs to be relocated and greenery needs restoration.
    9 all sports activities should stop.
    10. PWD engineers office, being misused, slum coming up adjoining the office- needs to be demolished.
    11. New construction needs being banned.
    12. The stadium is not ideal at the cost of the lake. should be demolished.
    13. The open air theatre should be demolished and green restored.
    If above are not done, Kolkata will loose the Heritage Greenery for ever.

    Huge Govt. apathy for decades.
    1. Slum of CIT fourth class staff quarter.
    2. Dumping ground for scrap boats and pipes by CIT, Civil defence etc.
    3. PWD Engineer’s office inside the lake, now being surrounded by upcoming slum of temp. structure.
    4. Structures of cricket coaching camps- worst offender, Ashok Malhotra’s concrete structure defacing and encroaching the lake.
    5. Numerous dilapidated walls inside.
    6. Now defunct Vidyasagar school.
    7. Open air theatre and stadium destroyed greens of vast tract of the lake.
    8. clubs inside are regularly making new constructions, polluting and surreptitiously encroaching more and more areas inside the lake.
    9. shanties and tea stalls coming up under the nose of  law enforcing authorities.
    if not reversed, kolkata will lose the heritage green, the lungs of south kolkata  stretch for ever.

    Footpaths and all open spaces are being encroached. Permanent structures and jhopdis have come up.
    See the footpaths around Bangur park.
    Nobody loves Kolkata. Only vested interests being served.

    I once asked a newspaper magnate, why always print sad, bad, depressing news. It makes one feel that that we are a nation of murderers and cheats.
    Also, when reporting a major mishap, why not say, 200 people survived instead of 80 people died? His response to me was good news is no news!
    I am glad, that you are proving that credo wrong. Enjoy reading all your positive news about people that make a difference.
    I too believe in the power of one. Upset that books on India do not find their way on the shelves of bookstores and in our children’s hands, I have started a website – Young India Books. A site that not only reviews but also promotes Indian Books for kids.

    Hi Dhimant Parikh. I read about THEBETTERINDIA in the Hindustan Times and visited ur site. YOU are doing a yeomen service in spreading positive stories. As rightly put by you its ok for  Newspapers to write on what’s going wrong, but why highlight the same with screaming headlines on the first page. In some family homes  if the members are already victims of negative incidents, highlighting such incidents in the newspapers will further add to their woes. There is a site Worldhappiness.com. Many training programmes are organised for spreading smiles and happiness among the young and the old. You may like to visit this site and contribute by linking some of your motivating stories to it.

    It reports that the machine can transplant 2,25,2000 seedlings per acre. But the fact is that this machine can transplant 2,25,000 seedlings per acre. There seems typological error in it. request to please correct the same

I am terribly disturbed when I saw on TV about milk, in West Bengal it was shown that 100% milk availble in West Bengal is impured milk and in other state the same is 60 to 65 % this is terrible. It improves Self-awareness, and in stead of being idly and negatively concerned about others’ faults, it tells you what you can positively do at your level,  to improve the situation. India would be nothing without its spiritual heritage, and that’s a mighty force that can transform the whole world.  Any vision for India devoid of service to the world at large, will be un-Indian. India is Bharat = Bha (light of wisdom) + Rat (engrossed or engaged). Let us be engrossed in seeking inner light.
