Rohini R Bhajibhagare is the collector of Salem, a district in Tamil Nadu. She is all kinds of awesome! In 2017, she became the first woman district collector of Salem – breaking a 170-year-old tradition of male dominance.

She is back in the news, and this time it is for helping a disabled woman get a tricycle in a day. Reports suggest that acting upon an anonymous WhatsApp message, collector Rohini got to work and ensured that the tricycle reached S. Malarkodi. The message contained an image of Malarkodi, moving on the road with the help of her hands and knees. The message also urged the collector to give the woman a tricycle.
“Immediately I ordered district differently abled welfare officer (DDAWO) CK Thangamani to look into this issue,” Rohini said.
Following the direction, Thangamani visited Malarkodi at Vellalapatty village in Pethanaickenpalayam block near Attur. He inquired over the issue and submitted a report to the collector, as reported in Times of India.
After reading the report, Rohini procured a tricycle costing Rs 6500 and handed the same to Malarkodi.
Acts like these, which are beyond the call of duty, that makes Rohini such a respected and loved collector.
Rohini is known for her people-centric governance model and has always ensured that she brings positive change in the places where she works.
