In a move to boost business for women entrepreneurs registered on the government’s e-commerce portal, Mahila e-Haat, the centre is now planning to tie-up with e-commerce companies like Amazon and Flipkart.
Mahila e-Haat was launched on the occasion of International Women’s Day this year for the socio-economic empowerment of women. It was started by the Rashtriya Mahila Kosh, an autonomous body under the Ministry of Women and Child Development.

The portal enables entrepreneurs to register their products without having to pay any listing fee.
“We are planning to collaborate with Amazon and Flipkart to promote the products and services of our three lakh entrepreneurs registered on Mahila-e-Haat,” Maneka Gandhi, Minister for Women and Child Development (WCD) Ministry told DNA.
Mahila e-Haat is already being promoted on the IRCTC website. The ministry is planning to promote it on the websites of State Bank of India and India Post as well.

The step has been taken because the portal hasn’t generated much business since its inception.
“I haven’t received any order from the government portal yet. My orders are coming through my own website, Facebook page, and word-of-mouth publicity as earlier. However, I am sure that if the government gets our business on popular e-commerce portals, it would benefit us to expand our work in a big way,” said Shruti Shrivastava, a Noida-based baker. Her brand Flavour Basket is listed on e-Haat.
While agreeing that any venture takes some time to grow, the officials have claimed that the portal has so far generated business worth Rs 20 crore for its members.
