A 23-year-old woman delivered a healthy baby inside a Delhi PCR van while she was being rushed to the hospital on Sunday morning from Subzi Mandi station.
Aarti was travelling with her in-laws to Smallkha, Panipat from Gwalior by Dadri Express when her water sac broke. Her in-laws informed the ticket-collector, who called the control room. The request was then transferred to the police.
At 5.28 am on Sunday morning, the police got a call asking for medical help at the Subzi Mandi Railway Station.
A PCR van was arranged and it drove up to the platform as other travellers carried Aarti out of the train.
Head constable Sanjeev and constable Sanjay took the woman into the van on a stretcher. With the help of the cops, Aarti gave birth to a baby boy in the PCR van itself. They even made arrangement for towels and hot water for the newborn.

“Without losing a single minute, PCR took her to Hindu Rao Hospital where both mother and child are safe,” said R K Singh, DCP (PCR) in an interview given to Deccan Herald.
While Aarti’s in-laws cannot stop thanking the two cops, Special Commissioner (Operations) Sanjay Beniwal has also declared awards for both of them.
In order to tackle such emergencies, Delhi Police plan to deploy all-women PCR units; eight women drivers have already been selected after a series of tests.
