A Group of Artists Just Converted This Neglected Delhi Railway Station into a Beautiful Canvas

In their effort to make railway stations cleaner and well-equipped, the Northern Railways’ authorities contacted artists from the Delhi Street Art group to give Narela station a facelift using their amazing skills with paints and brushes. Delhi Street Art, started by entrepreneur and photographer Yogesh Saini, is an initiative to promote public art in the country with the help of a group of young artists working at different places.

The Narela station, located at a distance of about 42km from New Delhi Railway Station, was in a very bad shape with several portions of the station being used as storage areas. “The station also has a very rich history, which needs to be preserved. I came to know that the original building of the station was made in 1890. A group of about seven artists worked on different portions of the station”, says Yogesh, adding that Delhi Street Art focuses on social interest art projects not just in Delhi, but other parts of the country as well. The lead artist and designer of the group, Yogesh started Delhi Street Art about two years ago when he returned to Delhi after living abroad for sometime and wanted to do something to maintain cleanliness in his city. He started the project by painting dustbins in Lodhi gardens to make them bright and attractive, so they would catch the attention of people and increase the usage of dustbins.
