Madhya Pradesh is gearing up for the Legislative Assembly elections which will be held on 28 November 2018, and the Bhopal District Election Office is using a unique method to convince adults in the city to vote in the upcoming elections.
Instead of the usual advertisements or campaigns, the office is taking the help of children in securing a good voter footfall!
IAS officer Kavindra Kiyawat, Bhopal’s Divisional Commissioner, came with the unique idea of sending a letter home with schoolchildren, addressing their parents.
“You are the creators of my future. You might think I am talking about my education. No.
Education is something I can achieve by working hard to create a bright future for myself. Today, I am talking about a small deed that can make a huge difference to my future: A promise to cast your vote. Your vote can ensure a bright future for me. Your vote can create a better future for Bhopal. Will you go out and vote to make a difference?” says the letter.
Distributed in private schools and government schools across the district, the IAS officer hopes to reach out to hundreds of voters, encouraging them to follow their responsibility and vote.
Speaking to the Times of India, Ritesh Sharma, the joint secretary of Bhopal Tourism Promotion Council, said,
“Parents do what their children ask for. That is why we decided to rope them in to join the awareness drive.
The initiative is the brainchild of divisional commissioner Kavindra Kiyawat. It is taking place in all government, and private schools and students are delivering the letters to their parents.”

As a proof of acknowledgement, the parents have to sign a letter which reads, “We promise to cast our votes along with all the voting members of the family and encourage our friends and relatives to do the same.”
This is indeed a unique idea, so let us hope that it encourages people to vote in the upcoming elections!
