Newly-wed couples in India are on a trend-setting spree. The story of this Bengali wedding too, will also leave you awe-inspired.
31-year-old Sandip Roy, a small time businessman from Ghatal of Bengal’s West Midnapore district married his 25-year-old bride, Sreela Mondal on 8th February, 2018.
The couple made a request to all its guests, not for gifts but to donate blood to celebrate their marriage.
They set up a small pandal with a message saying, “Sandiper biyete rokter bondhone aboddho hobo amara shobai” which translates to ‘Let’s unite for blood donation at Sandip’s marriage’ reports the Hindustan Times.
Every summer, the state faces an acute shortage of blood. To tackle the issue at hand in their small way, the couple created awareness and encouraged their family, friends and relatives to contribute to the cause.
Speaking to the Hindustan Times, Sandip said, “Considering that every summer West Bengal faces a crisis in supply of blood, I was thinking of doing something since the marriage was finalised. I consulted the idea to my friends and guardians and they readily agreed.”
Over 35 individuals came forward to donate blood on the joyous gathering.

Lauding the couple’s selfless contribution, blood donation activist and founder of Medical Bank in Kolkata, D Ashish, said, “This is a remarkable step. The couple deserves thanks and gratitude of the people. I am sure their example will prompt more youths to undertake similar gesture on the occasion of their marriage.”
