When Yunus Khan and his wife Anjum Ara heard the news that army jawan Naib Subedar Paramjit Singh was killed on duty in Poonch district in Jammu & Kashmir on May 1, they knew they had to do something to help the martyr’s family.
They have now offered to financially take care of his 12-year-old daughter, Khushdeep, including paying for her schooling.

Yunus and Anjum are no ordinary couple. He is the deputy commissioner at Kullu, Himachal Pradesh, and Anjum is an IPS officer. It was their call to take up the financial responsibility of this young girl whose father laid down his life while serving the nation.
Anjum, who is the Superintendent of police for Solan district, confirmed the news to Times of India, noting that the couple was moved to make this decision as they contemplated how they could assuage the grief felt by the martyr’s family. The young girl will continue living with her family in her hometown and the couple will also help her with any kind of aid she might require during her growing years.

Anjum notes, “Khushdeep will continue to stay with her family. We will be paying for all her expenses and meeting her from time to time to know about her problems and solve them. If she wants to become an IAS or IPS officer or choose some other career, we are there to help.”
The couple is also leaving it Kushdeep’s decision as to where she would want to pursue her education, be it in her school in the village she calls home or another educational institution. And if one day, she decides to become a civil servant herself, they will most definitely help her achieve her dreams.
