Here’s some increasingly good news for those who love travelling by trains but hate using the loos – the Indian railways is all set to revamp toilets of both air conditioned and non-AC coaches on Indian trains!
According to reports, the rest rooms will resemble those finds on flights or hotels, and the toilets will be ergonomic and modular. When it comes to air-conditioned coaches, the Western-style toilets will be made of materials imported from Korea and the rest room itself will be done up with soft LED lights and will be predominantly white.
It will also have a modular wash basin as opposed to the stainless steel one that exists right now.

As with non-AC coaches, the toilets will sport a similarly swanky look with coated flooring and an automatic fragrance dispenser. According to The Indian Express, the cost of the upgrade per toilet will be ₹3.5 lakh.
Additionally, over the next four months, the Indian railways is specifically looking to revamp the toilets that exist in 66 premium trains in India. These rest rooms will also come with nappy-change counters. A newly launched premium train called Humsafar is already offering such rest rooms for its passengers.
One of the most consistent complaints that travellers have for the Indian trains is that the toilets are often unkempt and at times unusable. This is a problem that authorities hope to do away with in the near future.

In the recent months, the Indian railways has been trying to re-work a number of services it provides. Among them has been the announcement that it will be building state-of-the-art base kitchens in order to improve the quality of food served on board.
