Soon, you may not even need a credit/debit card or even a smartphone to conduct retail transactions that are cashless. And that’s because of the new BHIM-Aadhaar app that was launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
The app is specifically meant for retailers and merchants who are either individuals or sole proprietors. It is not available to corporate merchants for use.
Already being hailed as the future of retail transactions in India, here are five things you need to know about the app.

1) The BHIM-Aadhaar app will soon be made available for both IOS and Android version.
2) The is a payment system based on biometrics. All you will need is your thumb impression. There are 40 crore people in the country whose bank accounts are directly linked to their Aadhaar card. Hence through finger print scanning alone, transactions can be conducted. There will be no need to remember PIN details or bank account numbers as a result of it.
3) Merchants and sole proprietors who want to use this option will have to buy fingerprint scanners.
4) Once the fingerprints of the customers are authenticated, the app will automatically transfer the money from the savings account of the customer to the merchant. Nothing else is required.

5) There are currently 30 banks that are participating in the initiative. This includes both private and public sector banks. Some of them include Allahabad Bank, Bank of Baroda, Bank of India, Andhra Bank, Axis Bank, Corporation Bank, Dena Bank, HDFC Bank, ICICI Bank, IDFC Bank and more. The team notes that more banks are being brought on board.
According to authorities, since the launch of the BHIM app back in December 30, 2016, it has been downloaded 1.9 crore times. While the BHIM-Aadhaar app is yet to hit the app stores, the BHIM app can be downloaded here
