This Man’s Last Wish Was to Build Homes for the Poor Rather Than Spend on His Funeral

When Raj Brayna Singh realised that he may not be beating his long battle against cancer, he had only one wish at the very end – that even after his death, people honour his life by helping others. And that’s exactly why the UK-based NRI started a fund-raising page to raise money and help the underprivileged.

The 39-year-old man, who succumbed to cancer, tied up with Khalsa Aid International to set up a campaign where he urged people to not spend on his funeral but rather donate to the poor.

His dream was honoured when the campaign raised £30,000 (approx ₹24 lakh), and as a result, built four homes in Malerkotla and Faridkot in Punjab.

In his fund-raising page, Raj writes, “If this page is active – that means one of my final wishes has been put in to place and I have lost the long battle with Colon Cancer…I request that on my funeral, money isn’t spent on flowers – instead you make a generous donation to this worthwhile charity that helps people from all faiths and religions.” His family and kin recently visited the villages where the homes were built in order to interact with those who benefited.

The organisation has noted through its own official Facebook page that Raj had a long and storied history with them, having raised money for social causes over the years. They have said that all remaining funds from the campaign would now be used in installing water pumps in Africa as a memorial for Raj.

The fundraising page set-up by Raj is still active and donations can be made here . Khalsa Aid International can be contacted here .
