It is rightly said that bystanders who choose to remain silent when a crime takes place are as good as accomplices in the crime. It is only by speaking out and taking action against the wrongdoers can we, as a society, curb illegal activities.
Popular singer Atif Aslam has set an example in this respect by stopping mid-performance when he spotted an incident of eve teasing in the crowd. He told off the molesters and ensured the safety of the woman.
The incident took place at a concert in Karachi on January 14, featuring performances by Abida Parveen and Atif Aslam. When Atif took the stage around midnight, he spotted some rowdy men harassing a girl in the crowd. He immediately stopped the performance and reprimanded them.
A video clipping of the incident uploaded by FHM Pakistan on their social media accounts is doing rounds on the internet. The video has been shared by many and Atif is being showered with words of praise and appreciation for his act.
The video shows him saying, “Tumne kabhi ladki nahi dekhi hai? Tumhari maa-behen bhi ho sakti hai yahan par (Have you never seen a girl before? Your mother or sister could have been here as well)”. He then ensured that the girl was taken to safety by the security personnel, before resuming the performance.
It is known that Atif is one of the most celebrated and talented singers, and after this incident, he has proved that he is a wonderful human being as well!
