The Indian Embassy in US Worked on a Holiday to Make Sure That a Son Attends His Father’s Funeral

On Tuesday, External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj directed the authorities at the Indian Embassy in Washington to work despite a two-day holiday for Vijaya Dashmi and Moharram, to issue a visa for an Indian man who wanted to reach his country on time to perform his father’s last rites.

Sarita Takru, a resident of Karnal, lost her husband on Monday and was waiting for her US-based son Abhai Kaul to reach for the cremation. But instead she received the information that Abhai would not be able to get his visa before Thursday because of a holiday at the embassy.

She turned to Twitter to express her concerns and requested the Minister to help her son get a visa on time.

Taking quick action on the request, Sushma Swaraj replied and ensured that the embassy did the needful. Soon, the embassy also asked Sarita to share her son’s contact details and took it forward from there.
