Sindhudurg, a district in Maharashtra had recently undergone a sanitation survey and was declared one of the cleanest districts in the country. Several cleanliness drives were launched between 1999 & 2006 to sensitise people in the district into maintaining cleanliness, more out of habit than compulsion.
The drives even looked into solid liquid waste management in one of the areas. The district now boasts of hill stations, pilgrim spots and 30 pristine beaches among other tourist attractions
