1. A garment shop owner in Bangalore has been providing lunch to the needy at an amazingly low price of Re.1 for the past four decades! What’s more, the price was 10p in 1972 when his father started the initiative.

2. It is really a rosy picture beyond the pictures painted by these 125 famous artists! In a show titled ‘Colours of Life’ veterans like Ara, Satish Gujaral, Akbar Padamsee, Jogen Choudhury, Samir Mondal, Bharti Prajapati and Ajay De exhibiting their art to raise funds for cancer patients at the behest of Cancer Patients Aid Association (CPAA).

Nevertheless, this summer some of them are lucky to get soothing watermelons, coconut water and sugarcane at Odisha’s Nandankanan zoological park. The park authority is taking a lot of care to protect the animals from the searing heat, including special diets and air-coolers!

The practice of creating the ‘Best out of waste’ was demonstrated decades back by Mahatma Gandhi when he himself made a warm blanket out of old clothes and newspapers for a winter cold-hit eight-year old boy. And history repeats, as students of Pearl Academy of Fashion (Delhi) recycled old clothes to make bedspreads and cushions!
