As of now, the live performances are being presented by a music band called ‘Aarohi’ that comprises of Konkan Railway employees. Last Saturday, the band performed for passengers waiting to board the Madgaon-Mumbai Konkan Kanya Express and got an overwhelming response.

“From the beginning passengers surrounded our event venue, while some including foreigners used mobile devices to record videos. Though we were beyond our performance time the passengers requested for more songs to be played,” David Mitta, a 48-year old section engineer from the electrical department of the station, who is a part of the band, told The Indian Express.

Railways is now planning to arrange performances from upcoming musicians or bands as well and make it a regular feature for more trains. Sanjay Gupta, the KRCL Chairman and Managing Director got the idea to start these live shows when he saw a musical performance at Delhi Airport. Konkan Railway Corporation (KRC) will arrange suitable time slots for different musical groups so they can target their specific audience and play music for them as they wait for their trains.

David Mitta has been performing with his five member troupe for the last 10 years in award ceremonies, annual day functions, etc. organized by KRCL and Indian Railways. They play Konkani, Hindi and patriotic songs.

The station has a footfall of 10,000 passengers. Railway has also agreed to give multiple time slots to the performers but with the condition that each performance will last for 30-45 minutes prior to the departure of the train so that passengers don’t miss their trains while being engrossed in the music.
