Train passengers will soon be able to download movies and play games using their smartphones during train journeys. All thanks to North Western Railways (NWR), which has decided to install WiFi hotspots in selected superfast and double-decker trains, and to provide free access to passengers.
NWR will provide this facility by installing restricted routers in coaches of some trains. Using WiFi on those trains, passengers will have to download an app called Press Play, which will enable them to download games, movies, music, and more.

They can also choose to watch or play using the app itself, without downloading the services. The facility has already been started in Bikaner-Sarai Rohilla train on a trial basis, after which it will be extended to other trains as well. According to the plan, the trial of this facility will be started in nine trains in various divisions of NWR.
The app will work only when the passenger is inside the train, with the restricted WiFi router. But movies downloaded using the app during the journey can be seen later as well. Passengers can also use the connection to get updated information about the train and other things related to Railways.
“We are also planning to start this facility in the Jaipur-Delhi Sarai Rohilla double-decker train. To run it permanently, we will have to take clearance from Research Designs and Standards Organisation (RDSO), Lucknow,” an officer told The Times of India.
