The Swachh Sarvekshan – 2016 is out. And guess what? Mysuru has the honour of being the cleanest city in the country. Providing a stark contrast, Varanasi, which is Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s constituency, has been ranked one of the least cleanest cities in the country.
The Swachh Sarvekshan ranks 73 cities on cleanliness and sanitation.

The Quality Council of India surveyed cities with a population of over 10 lakh to check how clean or dirty they were. Chandigarh, Tiruchirapalli, New Delhi, Visakhapatnam, Surat, Rajkot, Gangtok, Pimpri Chinchwad (Maharashtra), and Greater Mumbai are the other cities on the top of the list.
The results of the survey were announced by Minister of Urban Development M. Venkaiah Naidu.

Kalyan Dombivili (Maharashtra), Varanasi, Jamshedpur, Ghaziabad, Raipur, Meerut, Patna, Itanagar, and Asansol are on the bottom of the list.
The Minister, while announcing the results, said there must be a competition among the cities to ensure India is cleaner. He said that there is a need to step up sanitation efforts in the east and some parts of the north. He also released a booklet on Swachh Sarvekshan on the occasion.
