Yo Yo Honey Singh is a big hit in some villages of Uttarakhand. And if you think it’s just because of his songs, think again!
Instead of dancing to his music and raps, villagers are using Honey Singh’s party songs to scare away wild boars from their fields. Yes, you heard it right!

Farmers in Uttarakhand are extremely thankful to Yo Yo Honey Singh and some other Punjabi singers, whose songs have come to their rescue in a time of complete chaos. Tired of the destruction caused by wild boars in their agricultural fields, these farmers have now found a new way of driving the animals away — just play Honey Singh’s songs on loudspeakers, and all of them will run away.
No, really! It’s not a joke.
It began when wild boars started attacking the fields of these farmers, leading to so much damage that the government was compelled to declare them pests and sanction their killing. But the animals were strong and nothing seemed to help the farmers who were left bankrupt with all their crops completely destroyed.
After everyone failed to find a way, Honey Singh came to the rescue. In October this year, Bishan Jantwal, a 48-year-old farmer in Dhari village of Nainital district, installed loudspeakers around his land as an experiment to protect his potato crops. And it worked.
“I used to hear from elders in the house that wild animals avoid places where there is a human habitat. I thought of playing music to let them know of human presence. And it has worked,” he told The Times of India.
Slowly, other farmers in the neighbouring villages also started trying out the innovative practice, which definitely involves very little investment compared to other methods. Earlier, government departments had suggested playing recorded voices of tigers and other animals, but that did not deceive the boars. Farmers had also tried to guard the fields 24X7, and they used to beat tin and aluminium sheets to scare the animals away.
But in the end, only the songs worked.

All that the farmers have to do now is to install logs around their fields on which they mount loudspeakers, connect them to music systems kept in nearby houses, and play the music. Bishan Jantwal informed that other than party songs with loud beats, bhajans also have a similar effect on the wild boars and other animals like jackal, nilgai, etc.
Looks like Honey Singh might soon gain a huge fan following in Uttarakhand now. But not wild boars, for sure!
