Police officials in Gurgaon will now be seen following the traditional ways of patrolling. The city police has included bicycles in their fleet of patrolling vehicles. The idea behind the move is to build a strong connection with the community and move towards a safer society.
In an interesting move to revive the old patrolling system, police officials in Gurgaon will be seen cycling around the city.
Gurgaon police has decided to include bicycle in its fleet of patrolling vehicles. The decision came a few weeks after the city decided to celebrate every Tuesday as a car-free day.

Traditionally, police officials would patrol on bicycles or on foot, to maintain a close connection with the community. With launch of the modern police control room vehicles, this patrolling system declined over a period of time.
The city police reinitiated the system of patrolling on cycles in April, to facilitate better interaction with citizens and to maintain a safer society. The police stations of Sector 29, Sushant Lok, DLF City Phase 1 and Phase 2, and Sector 56 have started sending beat constables in their respective areas.
Women officers will also be patrolling on the bicycles. Four areas have been identified where women officers will be patrolling from 8 am.
Not just the constables, but senior cops will use bicycles to set an example for more officers to follow the same eco-friendly path.
DCP (East) Deepak Saharan said that the aim of the department is also to remove congestion on roads. He urged people to embrace more green and eco-friendly modes to commute. The police is planning to promote the use of public transport like buses and metro to make the city roads more user-friendly for pedestrians and cyclists.
