Though the Indian basketball players lost to Philippines, but they managed to qualify for quarter-finals at the 28th FIBA Asia Championship being held in China. This is the first time in 12 years that the Indian team has come so far in the tournament.
From political interference to lack of proper facilities, the Indian men basketball team has faced several changes. But nothing could deter these passionate boys from creating history.
Indian senior men’s basketball team has qualified for the quarter-finals of the 28th FIBA Asia Championship. The team got qualified despite losing to Philippines on Tuesday.
It is the first time after 2003, that the Indian basketball team has reached this far.
In its previous game, India managed to defeat Palestine with a small margin of three points (73-70). And now, they will play against China to fight for a place in the semi-finals. China is the only unbeaten team in the entire tournament.
Amjyot Singh, who has scored 23 points per game – the highest in the tournament, played a very crucial role in bringing India to this level. He led the team to the quarters almost single-handedly.
Thanks to his marvellous efforts, India will make its first quarter-final appearance in 12 years. Other players like the captain Vishesh Bhriguvanshi and Amritpal Singh were also the key players during the game.
The championship is being held in China. It started on September 23, and will conclude on October 3.
Kudos to the players who remain unaffected under pressure, and give incredible performances every time they are on court.
