Indian team gave a very impressive performance at the recently held Asian Rowing Championships in Beijing. The participants grabbed seven medals and made the country proud. Here’s more.

Apart from regular sports, did you know that India is gradually leaving a mark in the field of lesser-followed sports like rowing as well?

India bagged seven medals at the 16th Asian Rowing Championships that concluded in Beijing on Monday, Sept. 28, 2015.

The impressive medal tally includes five silver and two bronze medals.

The team of four – Kapil Sharma, Jaswinder Singh, Rajesh Verma and Mohammad Azad, won a silver medal in the men’s fours event, with a timing of 6:03.25s.

This was followed by yet another silver won by Dattu Baban Bhokanal in the men’s single sculls event with a timing of 7:18.41s.

The next two silvers were clinched by Vikram Singh and Shokendar Tomar, (in the light weight men’s double sculls) and the duo of Roopendra Singh and Sonu Laxmi Narain (in men’s double sculls).

The Indian participants gave a very impressive performance in every single category.

The team of eight – Davinder Singh, Naveen Kumar Borraiya, Suchcha Singh Tomer, Gurinder Singh, Kapil Sharma, Jaswinder Singh, Rajesh Verma, Mohammad Azad and Lakshman Rohith Maradapa – also won silver in the men’s eight event.

It was not just the shine of silver that made us proud, but also the glitter of bronze that gave us a reason to rejoice.

Bronze medals were bagged by Davinder Singh and Naveen Kumar Borraiya in men’s pairs, and Dushyant in the light weight men’s single sculls.

The championship started on Sept. 24, and the team was accompanied by the national coach, Ismail Baig.
