Abhinav Bindra clinched a gold medal at the Asian Air Gun Championship being held in New Delhi. He, along with Gagan Narang and Chain Singh, won gold in the team event too. Here’s more.
India’s ace shooter Abhinav Bindra has given the country yet another reason to rejoice. He clinched the gold medal in 10m air rifle at the Asian Air Gun Championship on Sunday.
The championship is being held at Dr Karni Singh Shooting Range in New Delhi and the Beijing Olympics champion, Bindra, shot 208.3 points to bag the top prize on the first day of the competition.
He beat the scores of Kazakhstan’s world number eight Yurkov Yuriy (206.6) and Korea’s Yu Jaechul (185.3) to grab this position.
Bindra, who has already qualified for the Rio Games, was very consistent throughout and was way ahead of others in the competition.

The other two shooters from India, Gagan Narang and Chain Singh, finished fourth and sixth respectively. Thanks to their impressive performances, India also won gold in the 10m air rifle team event with a total of 1868.6 scored by the combined efforts of Bindra, Narang and Singh.
While this Olympic champion was making us proud, young shooters from the country were also not far behind.
In the youth category, Satyajeet Kandhol won gold in the 10m air rifle event. And the Indian trio of Kandhol, Mithlesh and Gajendra Raj finished with the silver medal in the 10m air rifle team event.
In junior category, Pratik Borse bagged the silver medal. In addition to this, the trio of Borse, Prashant and Akhil Sheoran won silver.
Asian Air Gun Championship is first international shooting competition to be held in India after the Delhi Commonwealth Games in 2010.
