Our soldiers put their lives in danger to ensure that we remain safe in our houses, to ensure that the country is protected at all times, and to give citizens the peace of mind that there is someone out there who is looking out for us. But who looks after those brave jawans? Who looks after them when they are hurt? Who ensures that they get the best healthcare no matter where they are?
It’s the Indian Army Medical Corps. Driven by the motto of Sarve Santu Niramaya (may all be free from disease and disability), it has been saving lives since April 3, 1943, when it came into existence.
The Indian Army Medical Corps works around the clock to keep our soldiers, their families and the retired army officials safe, healthy and fit. All army doctors, nurses and paramedics receive basic military training to survive at the battlefront. They deal with war time causalities, and move along with the troops, and never hesitate to put their own lives in danger for the service of those who give their all to fight for the country.
The Army Medical Corps serves the country’s troops at the forward most line of contact.
Army base hospitals have some of the most advanced equipment which help in immediate treatment for conditions in which time is very limited. These hospitals not only serve the army men, but their families and retired soldiers as well.
Be it high altitudes or sites of natural calamities, these doctors are always at service.
“While they are working so hard and putting their lives in line, we have to do the best for them,” says one of the doctors.
Emergency medical care to civilians during natural calamities is another very important role of Army Medical Corps. The experts set up relief camps and also offer all possible assistance at the various army hospitals.
